So my friend The penguin’s friend was driving down the highway when he lost brakes. According to the user manual, the brake booster failed.
Can anyone who knows their stuff or had a similar experience give some info?

Is the brake pedal always hard?
I havent had a brake booster fail yet, but had a bad master cylinder. The brake pedal goes to the floor and you aren’t stopping, but comes up again and have to pump in order to stop.

Failing brake booster would mean losing power brakes. If he lost brakes totally then his master cylinder failed, or your friend failed. Unless he’s in an ancient car that only has a single cylinder master, and there could be a leak in his system somewhere.

My Autotech teacher told our class that if you think your brake booster went bad you can do a simple test to find out.
Pump the brakes when the car is off, then turn the car on. If the pedal goes down a bit your booster is fine and it’s probably somthing else. If it doesn’t move then you have a bad brake booster.

I wasn’t able to check but the dash message said that it was a brake booster failure. I will ask him to try this as soon as I can.
